A Major Lazer gig wouldn’t be the same without its hype man.

Skerrit Bwoy was featured in an article in New York’s TimeOut Magazine:

Initially a fringe member (he doesn’t appear on Guns Don’t Kill People or an upcoming EP, Lazers Never Die), Skerrit solidified his role as Major Lazer’s live-show frontman after a memorable turn in the innovative video (directed by Eric Wareheim of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) for Guns Don’t Kill People single “Pon De Floor.” In the tradition of the Jamaican sound-system DJ, he is more of a hype man than a proper vocalist. “We can count on him to get the people really crazy,” Diplo says. “When we toured Australia people thought he was Major Lazer, which is pretty cool.”
Major Lazer’s current tour will keep Skerrit on the road in the coming weeks, but New Yorkers willing to trek to out-of-the-way Caribbean clubs in the Bronx and Brooklyn can typically catch him every couple of days. “I can’t tell you the last night I didn’t hit the streets,” Skerrit says. “Even when I’m not partying, I’m partying, man.”

Diplo and Switch’s debut album as Major Lazer, Guns Don’t Kill People– Lazers Do, triumphs as a combination of studio wizardry and all-star guest spots. Not exactly the easiest thing to pull off in the live setting, especially with Switch absent and no all-star guests to be found. So what we got was Diplo mixing up his insanely fun dancehall music while a hype man, Skerrit Bwoy, and a dancer, Mimi, pleased the crowd. It succeeded beyond my wildest expectations.
Mimi was an absolute marvel of athleticism, part stripper and part gymnast. She stood on her head, she did splits, she got lower than low, she vibrated like a Nokia, she wrapped her legs around Skerrit Bwoy and a lucky dude who got pulled from the audience. Skerrit Bwoy, a ball of energy topped with a yellow mohawk, climbed on just about anything and everything, much to the chagrin of the Cedar Street Courtyard’s security. He brought a bunch of female audience members on stage and danced lasciviously with them, he swung a gold chain violently around his neck. He and Mimi made a superlative comedic and acrobatic team, so much so, that I almost forgot that Diplo was even on stage– until he dropped Ace of Base’s “All That She Wants” and the crowd went apeshit.

Washington DC party Review via http://empressdoms.blogspot.com/2010/03/event-coverage-skerrit-bwoy-birthday.html
Before I even start anything, lets big up SKERRIT BWOY on his big birthday eXXXtravaganza!! The man is a party animal and does it well! His birthday bash went down this past Friday at CLUB 24 (washington dc) and it was WILD! Wild like DANCERS GONE WILD! Wild and a little bit dangerous! I got to give props to dancers without knee pads and body armor – they take dancing to another level…. The night was WAAAAAY too much fun! The crowd was HYPE!! Some girls were spinning around on their head tops, while the others proved that they can tip pon dem toes!
I felt like I was partying in New York because the crowd was LIVE and the music was on point, it was a great balance between Dancehall and hip hop and trust me, DC is not known for such a good balance. Usually, if you wanna hear hip hop.. you have to go to a hip hop party. If you want to hear Dancehall, you’d have to go to a Dancehall party. Very rarely do they combine the two and they actually do it well. What’s worse than going to a party and the during the Dancehall segment they start playing ACTION by Nadine Sutherland & Terror Fabulous? When they buss out the Shabba Ranks next – TING A LING A LING! I’m telling you, DC is not known for good combinations. But the mix on FRIDAY NIGHT was one fire.. they did it up for Skerrit Bwoy’s birthday…
The BLACK ROOM was packed with nothing but DC’s FINEST! I mean, check the pics.. the club was filled with nothing but FLY GIRLS and SEXY FELLAS! They were clean cut, well dressed, wore cute shoes and smelled good. As you know, SKERRIT BWOY is a dance-a-holic so the place was FILLED TO CAPACITY with dancers from EVERYWHERE! People hopped on buses, planes and trains to make it to this party.. so where were you?? Even SKERRIT BWOY came with a tour bus full of out-of-towners who just couldn’t miss the big event. The party was CrAziLy INSANE!! Need proof?? Check out the video clips and lots more pics…
